As if his birth name wasn’t whimsical enough, dreamy dance-pop producer Orlando Higginbottom would really prefer that you call him by the adorably twee title, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

The son of an Oxford University music professor, this skinny, rosy-cheeked Englishman’s artistic sensibility is wide-ranging and quite eclectic, touching upon such things as feathers, luxurious headwear, Brian Eno, odd musical instruments, ’80s synth-pop, glitter cannons, Kenneth Anger, and dancing velociraptors.

Essentially, Higginbottom just totally ignores the expected. As he recently told a Channel 4 documentary team, “Well, I say that I make dance music. But most people in dance music say they make house or techno or tech-house or trance or drum ‘n’ bass or liquid drum ‘n’ bass or something.”

“If we kind of woke up tomorrow morning and there were none of these genres,” he suggests, “you just had your record collection and you didn’t know what any of it was called … That’d be great and you’d probably write some amazing music.”
