Ever enjoy the perfect cocktail at your local bar and wish you could make a good drink at home? Well, you might not be a seasoned mixologist, but The Hoxton’s Thomas Merolla feels that anyone should be able to make a solid cocktail.
Which is why the talented bartender is hosting a monthly class at the Brickell hotspot. The interactive two-hour session, held on the second Thursday of each month, has Merolla teaching the secrets to three classic cocktails — all of which you (in the name of learning) get to make — and taste. Cocktails are paired with bar bites and participants receive a gift bag filled with goodies. Ours included a snazzy baseball cap, a shot glass, and two complimentary Hoxton drink tickets — good for any time.
The classes are $45 per person, $80 for a couple, and $35 per person for groups of four or more. Classes can be customized and can be booked for private events, as well (think a sophisticated martini lesson for a bridal shower or a birthday bourbon blowout bash). Due to the limited space available, reservations are required for those interested in attending and can be made by emailing reservations@hoxtonmiami.com.
We recently attended (in the name of research) and actually learned a thing or two — including how to make our new favorite drink — the New York sour.

The Hoxton’s Thomas Merolla makes the classes fun and informative.
Miami’s favorite cocktail, this mojito is made with dark rum for a more complex flavor.
The first documented “cocktail”, the old fashioned is a classic drink that’s simple to make.
The New York sour starts with a basic whiskey sour, then adds a red wine “floater”.
