Another Miami-Dade Police Officer has been shot and killed, but this time the officer wasn’t on duty. Officer Juan Aviles was visiting his mother in Puerto Rico, when a car he was traveling in with his sister was ambushed. Both Aviles and his sister were found dead with multiple bullet wounds.
“Information was provided to us that one of our officers, Officer Juan Aviles, a 31-year-old white male who is assigned to the Northwest district, had been in Puerto Rico along with his sister,” Miami-Dade Police Lt. Rosanna Cordero-Stutz told WSVN. “The information that we received is that he was found deceased, shot multiple times, and his sister was also found with him, deceased, shot multiple times. At this time, we don’t know what the motive was for the murder of this officer.”
Little other information is available at this time.
Aviles, 31, has been with the department since 2006. His wife, also a police officer, recently gave birth to twins.
