Proper Sausages Offering Nationwide Delivery

Freddy and Danielle Kaufman, who opened their butcher shop in March 2013, are now offering four varieties of their beloved sausages for sale online. One-pound packs come for $12 apiece and they’re offering a classic sausage alongside the Dub, a spicy variety filled with cherry wood smoked Berkshire pork, fresh thyme, habanero, allspice, and fresh garlic. There’s also a fig and blue cheese studded variety and the Romagna with white wine and rosemary.

The move is a big leap for the duo that started out selling one-pound packs of sausage at farmer’s markets across South Florida. Opening their shop last year gave them the opportunity to stock a wider range of sausages alongside Florida-raised beef, poultry, pickles, craft beer, and more.

“There are companies like D’Artagnan, Benton’s (Country Ham) that sell high-quality product and sometimes the shipping can cost more than the product,” Freddy says. “Eventually we’d like to be able to sell as many things as people want to buy.”

While Proper Sausages are now found in a variety of restaurants, the move could broaden their customer base and provide the resources to move into a bigger facility.

“We want to be curing and smoking all the time,” he added.
