By a three to two vote, an Ecuadorian court last week upheld a $42 million verdict against journalist Emilio Palacio and three others. All work for El Universo, that nation’s largest newspaper. And all were sentenced to jail for a column Palacio wrote that severely criticized the president.


In response, the newspaper published a story this morning that points out 22 other cases were held up because of President Rafael Correa’s hurry to prosecute the journalists.
