Throughout its shining history, the great state of Florida has never bothered to put a law on the books explicitly banning humans from having sex with animals. In recent years, Broward Democratic state Sen. Nan Rich has led a charge to finally outlaw bestiality, but Republican leaders in the House have refused to bring it up for vote. Well, finally, yesterday they brought it to the floor and it passed unanimously. Now it’s headed to the governor.

House leaders apparently thought the issue was too silly to take up and would lead to ridiculous news stories. That kinda backfired, and the fact that the House for two years in a row wouldn’t vote on outlawing sex with animals became more of a ridiculous story. So they decided to bite the bullet. It passed unanimously in two minutes.

The state Senate had already passed the bill in March. That body also voted unanimously for the bill.

So now it’s headed to Gov. Rick Scott’s desk. We can’t imagine any reason why he wouldn’t sign it, unless he wants to be known as the governor who thinks bestiality is cool.
