There are many ways to battle: via clamors and guns, via rap a la 8 Mile, and in a spirited dance-off. In the world of Montreal performance troupe Cirque Éloize, rival gangs choose to battle via a circus-off — or, more aptly, a cirque-off.
In iD, which opens tonight at the Arsht Center, a motley crew challenges each others’ aerial and contortion skills to a pulsing soundtrack of hip-hop and electronica. It’s all set in a M.C. Escher-esque futuristic city. This ain’t the big top. Director Jeannot Painchaud created a tone that feels somewhere in between comic books, sci-fi, and urban life. To celebrate the absence of clowns and lions in this circus, we’re giving away two ticket to iD.
To win two iD tickets for the August 4 performance, suggest a name for
either of these cirque gangs in the comments on the Cultist Facebook
