We guess CBS just isn’t [dramatic putting-on of sunglasses] feeling the heat.
The network announced its lineup of next season’s returning shows last night, 18 in total, in a bold move that experts say reflects the network’s current Champion of Ratings status. But amid titles like Survivor, NCIS, and The Good Wife, the steamy, scientific crime-solving drama CSI: Miami is nowhere to be found.
That doesn’t mean the show’s canceled, of course. But it does indicate a wariness on CBS’ part, and could mean that Horatio Caine & gang will be dropped in favor of a new series.

CSI: Miami is a crime procedural that trades on Miami stereotypes of glamour and corruption. To Miami viewers, of course, its scenes were unbearably fake, most of which were shot far, far away from the 305. Still, in 2006, the BBC declared it was the most popular television show in the world. CSI: Miami also managed to revive the career of David Caruso, as well as a handful of soap opera crossovers. And thanks to the Internet, it gave us the opportunity to address current events with all the faux-seriousness of the show itself, in the form of CSI 4 Pane comics.
For nostalgia’s sake, we’d be sad to see CSI: Miami go. But for dignity’s sake, we’re hoping this marks a new trend in TV: Miami-based shows that are actually filmed here, and are genuinely, not ironically, enjoyable. (See: Magic City.)
Other shows on CBS’ renewed and returning list include Person of Interest, Hawaii 5-0, Undercover Boss, Blue Bloods, The Mentalist, Mike & Molly, Criminal Minds, 60 Minutes, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, 2 Broke Girls, The Amazing Race, 48 Hours Mystery, NCIS: LA, How I Met Your Mother, and The Big Bang Theory.
