While rephrasing a comment made by José “Pepe” Cancio, Putney substituted the acronym for the hangman’s faction with that of the famed civil rights organization.

Putney knows the proper quote well. He even used it as the basis for a Miami Herald editorial
column he wrote. Maybe no other local news teams noticed, but candidates
Carlos Gimenez, Marcelo Llorente, and Julio Robaina caught the gaffe. But, politicans through and through, they kept
their mouths shut.
