It’s been a long time coming, but New Times has officially launched its first podcast.
Midweek Cafecito, hosted by culture editor Celia Almeida and music editor Flor Franceschetti, is your insider pass to the latest cultural happenings in Miami, and a behind-the-scenes look at how we put together our stories.
In each podcast, we’ll break down the biggest news in Miami music, arts, nightlife, and culture, expanding on our reporting and giving you backstage access: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Episodes, which are live on our YouTube channel and will soon be on Spotify, are recorded at Jolt Radio, our partner on the project.
In this first episode, we unpack a global event with several local connections. We dive into Bad Bunny’s unforgettable Super Bowl halftime show and how our city reacted to Benito’s surprise guests. We also talk about the new music venues opening around town, and break down our People to Watch issue that just dropped.

Then, we sit down with Danny Ae, local partner at Fetish Factory, the longest-running strict dress-code fetish party in the U.S. He breaks down what’s kept the party going for three decades, why it thrives in South Florida, and how couples looking to spice things up for Valentine’s Day can think outside the typical dinner-and-roses routine.
“Some couples want to do something more interesting, more romantic, more erotic, so they come to our parties,” Danny says. “Even Halloween brings in people who wouldn’t normally dress the part, but they’re curious.”
It’s a welcoming environment, he adds. “We never have fights. There are no issues.”

Asked why Fetish Factory works so well in Miami, he shares: “There are so many different types of people here you can attract. Fashion thrives here. Music thrives here. You put it together, that’s a goth party, that’s a fetish party, that’s a concert. That mix of communities and cultures is why we’re able to keep moving forward.”
At its core, the key to thriving as a couple — at a Fetish Factory party or outside of it — is fostering connection. “Everything starts in the bedroom,” he says. “It starts with communication, being excited about things, planning date nights. Looking for new experiences with your partner is important. It opens new doors on how you can come together.”
