Each week, Vh1 viewers are treated to the gossip-talking, hair-pulling, wine-bottle-throwing antics of the ladies (for lack of a better word) of Basketball Wives. Is it guilty fun to watch in hour-long segments? Sure.
But now the world of the Wives could be headed to the big screen.
Fox Searchlight plans to produce a film inspired by the real-life wives, girlfriends, and baby mamas of NBA players, produced by none other than Basketball Wives executive producer and star (and pint-sized ex-wife of Shaq), Shaunie O’Neal, according to reports.
According to Variety, the project is still in the earliest stages. The untitled pitch offered up by O’Neal and Jumping the Broom producer Tracey Edmonds is the story of a woman who relocates with her basketball-playing boyfriend after his career moves him to Miami. Once there, she joins “a sisterhood of players’ wives, and learns from their trials and tribulations.”

“Sisterhood” is not exactly the first word that comes to mind when we think of Basketball Wives. But that’s the beauty of fiction, we suppose.
