On May 20, Miami’s brunch scene will reach a new level. More than 30 restaurants will unite for an extravaganza offering unlimited bites and bubbly from noon to 3 p.m. at Soho Studios. A sneak peek at this year’s offerings reveals crab huevos rancheros from the Rusty Pelican; coquito French toast with coconut milk, cinnamon, and a vanilla-maple drizzle from Glass & Vine; fried duck and biscuits from NaiYaRa; and chicken and avocado arepas from Toro Toro.

The tuna pastelitos from Gilbert’s Bakery shouldn’t be as good as they are. The recipe alone sounds like the kind of outlandish concoction to spring out of one of IBM Chef Watson’s algorithms. The menesier de tuna ($1.25) folds a slightly flaky, crumbly crust like that of pie dough around shredded albacore tuna prepared in the style of ropa vieja. Once the pastries are out the oven and cooled, a quick slick of sugar syrup gives them a chrome-like shine.

April 2017 Miami Restaurant Openings and Closings

April in Miami saw several significant openings and a few closings. Miami royalty Gloria and Emilio Estefan debuted Estefan Kitchen in the Design District and gained a new brewery. Miami’s beloved Knaus Berry Farm closed for the season, and Cypress Tavern and Made in Italy shuttered. Finally, Federal Donuts in Wynwood and Panther Coffee in the MiMo District are scheduled to open soon.
