Miami’s Best Eats and Drinks This Weekend: Pre-Valentine’s Day Partying

Happy Friday!  This weekend is all heart. Valentine’s Day is next week and, this being Miami, the party starts this weekend. Shop for chocolate and fixings for a romantic dinner at the Wynwood Farmer’s Market, enjoy a Love Boat-themed brunch, or sample fine wines. Take your sweetie out for a pre-V-Day dinner show or find your soul mate at a Zodiac-inspired cocktail soiree.

The Cape at the Townhouse Hotel Gives Tacky Cocktails a New Twist

From rooftops to lobbies, a wave of high-style, well-thought-out drink menus and impeccable service is giving the classic concept of the hotel bar new meaning. In Miami Beach, no others are doing it quite like the Cape, a bar that opened in late November on the rooftop of the Townhouse Hotel…

Support Mexico in Miami: Five Hot Places for Tequila, Tacos, and More

It looks like Donald Trump is building that wall. Just a few days into his presidency, Trump has already signed an executive order to build the wall — possibly having Americans pay for it by issuing a 20 percent tax on Mexican imports — including beer, avocados, tequila, and mezcal.Already, relations with Mexico seem strained, with Mexico’s president, Enrique Peña cancelling a meeting with Trump, set for next week.  The two leaders did have an hour-long phone call today to discuss America’s trade deficit with Mexico. A statement released by the Mexican government said that the two leaders had “clear and very public differences” on “sensitive” issues. Whether or not a tax is imposed on some of our favorite food and drink items remains to be seen. For the moment, though, it’s a good idea to eat all the guacamole and tacos and drink all the mezcal and margaritas we can.  Here are the hottest places to grab your tacos and tequila while you can!

Union Beer Store Opens Tomorrow in Little Havana

Union Beer Store, located at 1547 SW Eighth St., will celebrate its soft opening this Saturday in Little Havana. The craft beer bar and lounge will feature 21 taps of mostly local brews, although it will offer some out-of-town suds. Unlike many bars cofounder David Rodriguez has seen, the taps face the customer so the bartender can engage with guests without having his back turned while pouring.

Where to Day-Drink in Miami During Trump’s Inauguration

It’s here, folks. Barring an alien invasion (we’re talking to you, Martians), today Donald J. Trump will be sworn in as the president of the United States. Doomsday scenarios are already being batted about — like CNN’s cheering thought that if everyone gets vaporized during the inaugural ceremonies (see the above-mentioned Martian attack), some low-level cabinet member could actually become interim president.

Brickell’s La Cueva Tequila Bar to Open Just in Time for Trump’s Inauguration

Depending upon your political views, drinking tequila this Inauguration Day could be a sign of celebration or an escape from reality. Or it could be that you’re drinking tequila at La Cueva, a new Mexican cave-themed bar located at 1111 SW First Ave. in the heart of Brickell. Meaning “the cave” in Spanish, La Cueva is a bar that specializes in all things tequila, mezcal, and the myriad cocktails containing those two spirits.

Miami’s Best Eats and Drinks This Weekend: Art Deco Weekend, Miami Beer Festival, and the Flea

Happy Friday! We survived the first full work week of 2017, which means we deserve some good times (and a long weekend). Martin Luther King Jr. weekend coincides with South Beach’s Art Deco Weekend. Start by enjoying music-themed cocktails at the Regent Cocktail Club. Then channel the Great Gatsby at the Jazz Age Lawn Party or explore Miami’s beer scene at the fifth-annual Miami Beer Festival. Finally, stop by the Miami Flea.

J. Wakefield Brewery Expands Distribution to Central Florida, Prepares for Second Anniversary

Wynwood’s J. Wakefield Brewing Company (JWB) opened on a wave of demand for its beers following a record-breaking crowdfunding campaign, but the brewery hadn’t distributed to Central Florida until now. This month, JWB will begin distributing its beers to more than 20 select bars and restaurants in the Orlando and Tampa areas. It’s also the first time the brewery has distributed in Florida outside its initial market. The distributor is Ohio-based Cavalier Distributing, which also has a facility in Lakeland, Florida.

The Ten Best Bloody Marys in Miami

After a week of partying hard to ring in the New Year, Miami is need of a major recovery plan. A hearty carb-and coffee-loaded brunch usually does the trick, but it’s a bold, salty and savory bloody mary that works wonders no matter the time of day. It’s a simple cocktail that starts with two main ingredients – tomato juice and vodka – and can practically function as a standalone meal, especially when it’s dressed in contents like bacon, horseradish, cocktail shrimp, deviled eggs, and of course, different layers of spice.

Five New Miami Breweries to Watch at Fifth-Annual Miami Beer Fest

Many of the breweries showcased at the fifth-annual Miami Beer Festival (MBF) January 14 at Marlins Park will include local favorites, as well others that are soon to open in the Magic City. More than five dozen breweries, many local, will pour at this year’s MBF. Though there’s nothing wrong with sticking to the beers you know, festivals such as these give new breweries a chance to gauge recipes or gain public exposure before opening production facilities.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve 2017 With Nikki Beach’s $10,000 Mojito

Over the past decade or so, South Beach has honed its reputation as a playground for the rich and famous, where money is no object. It’s so common to see a $400,000 Maybach pulling up to the valet at Prime One Twelve for a $300 slab of Japanese A5 Kobe that we don’t even look twice anymore. So when dropping a few Gs on a typical Thursday is commonplace, whatever do you do on New Year’s Eve?

The EazyO App Brings Food and Cocktails to Your Beach Chair

Getting food and beverage service at the beach can feel like an impossible mission. Getting up from your towel to sprint across the hot sand for a cold drink is simply out of the question. That leaves flagging down one of the hotel servers that roam the beach across the vast landscape of chairs, umbrellas, and sunbathers at the pool. Sure, you could bring beer or water, but what if you really want a frozen rum runner? You’re out of luck — until now.
