Bloody Marys can be a contentious topic. Whether you like your breakfast booze extra spicy, horseradish heavy, full of pickled veggies or topped with meat on a stick – everyone’s got an opinion.

This Sunday bartenders will go head to head at the Broken Shaker in a Bloody Mary battle extraordinaire. Using Absolut vodka, they’ll be mixing up tomatoey treats in the hopes of winning a $1,000 prize.

And the contestants won’t be the only winners. Attendees to the free event will get to sample Bloodys from 3 to 6 p.m., then they’ll be given three tickets to vote for their fave.

The competitor list includes Miami’s top masters of mixology. It includes Andrea Crazatti of Wood Tavern; Mark Kinzer of Zuma; Robert Ferrera of Swine; Michael Parish of the Broken Shaker; Rolando Ravelo of The Palace; Bryan Canales of Radio; Will Rivas of Khong and Susan Radau, Angel Diaz and Kenny Bollozos of Team Deuce.

Judges include Naren Young, a celebrity bartender from New York; Andrew Mirabito, a brand ambassador for Absolut; and Walid Hamid, a brand ambassador for Avion tequila.

As far as creativity — anything goes. The only qualifications are that they utilize Absolut vodka and are able to re-create their recipes – so expect some interesting concoctions. We can’t think of a better way to spend Labor Day weekend than raising a toast to everyone’s favorite day drink.
