Miami New Times‘ Brew at the Zoo is back. That means it’s time to enjoy hundreds of the world’s finest beers alongside the wildest creatures you’ve ever encountered. No, we’re not talking about your college roommates. We’re talking about monkeys and tigers — and Vanilla Ice.
It all goes down from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Zoo Miami, where you’re invited to sample as many brewskis as you like and listen to Vanilla Ice sing the catchiest song to come out of the ’90s: “Ice Ice Baby.”
The song, which features a slightly tweaked version of the hook from Queen and David Bowie’s “Under Pressure,” was written by Robert Van Winkle (AKA Vanilla Ice) about growing up in South Florida. The rap with the catchy bass line was a megahit, becoming the first hip-hop single to top the Billboard charts. Take that, naysayers.
In addition to Vanilla Ice, there’s the beer. The list includes Goose Island’s Honkers Ale, Big Storm Wave Maker, WoodChuck Granny Smith, Redhook Longhammer, Shock Top Honey Bourbon Cask Wheat, Johnny Appleseed, Kona Big Wave, Widmer Upheaval, and many others, with more beers being announced daily.

Tickets for Brew at the Zoo (BATZ) are on sale now. General admission tickets cost $35 through April 6, $40 through May 2, and $50 at the gate (if the event isn’t sold out). VIP tickets allow you access to BATZ an hour earlier (at 7 p.m.) and entry to the VIP area, which features complimentary food and specialty drinks. VIPs pay $75 until May 2 and $80 at the gate. Plus, save your ticket, because you’ll be able to get into Zoo Miami free May 5 through 15 simply by showing your stub at the gate. That stub will also get you a $30 credit for a Zoo Miami annual pass so you can ponder the gorillas as many times as you like throughout the year. None of these offers is valid with other discounts or coupons.
