Barbecue is synonymous with summertime, which is why DB Bistro Moderne has brought back its summer DBQ series for the second year in a row — to keep things a little cool with some specialty cocktails during these scorching months.

DB Bistro launched DBQ last year and had such a successful run that Jason Pringle is going for a second round. You can catch the executive chef mingling and grilling Fridays on the terrace, where he makeS barbecue items from regions across the world each week. Available Monday through Friday in the lounge and on the terrace during happy hour from 5 to 8 p.m., DBQ is going on till the end of August. Short Order was invited to check out the offerings.

Signature cocktails include a “root beer” float ($8), grapefruit blossom ($9), white cosmopolitan ($10), and strawberry mojito ($9). There are also skinny cocktails for boozers watching their calories. Choose from a gin pucker, an American dream, or a classic daiquiri — all clocking in at 110 calories and under $10 — a steal for the wallet and waistline. Also available are Cigar City brews and Native Lager for $5.

An artisanal cheese board comes made to your liking and meant to share. Choose from three-piece ($14), five-piece ($21) or seven-piece ($28).

Small plates range in price from $7 to $8. Get the three little piggies for $21 and choose any three, regardless of price each. The chicken empanadas are mini renditions of the Latin favorite and served with aioli and a salad ($7).

Remember to eat your veggies. Asparagus and corn are grilled and served hot ($7).

This is DBQ, so of course there are baby-back ribs with spoon bread on the menu ($9).

Grilled oysters with spicy garlic butter ($8) are a steal.

A regional barbecue tour changes things up weekly, giving you insight into barbecue customs around the world. Ours was Southern-themed, hence the buttermilk fried chicken and three-cheese mac ($12).
