Rum lovers rejoice for the new year, because the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival is returning with a new name and an exciting new addition.
The Miami Rum Festival will take place Friday April 25 – Sunday, April 27, at the Doubletree Hotel Miami Airport Convention Center. The event will feature seminars, music, and items for purchase (in case you need some tiki shirts or want to stock up on barware).
But, more than talks about the history of rum and entertainment, there’s the rum. Hundreds of rums, including rare brands not available in Miami, are featured at the grand tasting, which runs on Saturday and Sunday, with a VIP and industry day on Friday. All told, there will be 50,000 square feet (up from 40,000 square feet last year) of rum-related goodness to experience at the fest, with about 125 different exhibitors sampling rums and wares.
The festival takes place during Miami Cocktail Week, a week long event that runs from April 21-27. This event is also organized by the Burr family of Miami Rum Festival fame, and will put a spotlight on the best cocktails and bartenders in Miami.

Rum Festival’s Robert Burr tells Short Order that the emphasis will, as always, be on exploring and experiencing great rum. “We’ll see a number of rums from Mauritius, quite a few new artisan rums from up and coming distilleries, and new spiced rums. Many brands are showing new luxury rums.”
Tickets for the festival are $50 for general admission; $75 for VIP and will go on sale later this month. That leaves plenty of time to get the pirate suit out of the dry cleaners.
