Hey, Miami, we hope you’ve been working on your booty clap routine, because Justin Martin is coming to vibe your ass out this Friday at the Electric Pickle.
The Dirtybird DJ-producer has been beat-blasting since 2003. But he just released his debut full-length album, Ghettos and Gardens, on the San Francisco label in April. As Dirtybird and Martin fans have come to expect, it’s full of dank beats, hood leans, sick samples, and ass-shaking bass.
The label’s entire crew, headed by ghetto-funk mastermind Claude VonStroke, has perfected a party sound that is equal parts hip-hop swagger and dark all-night techno. Add a dedication to blending the weird and edgy with the nostalgic and familiar, and you have one hell of a booty-clapping competition.
Only a few months ago, Martin visited Miami to headline the Dirtybird BBQ at Villa 221 during Winter Music Conference. It was an all-day, summer-style affair and definitely one of the funkiest parties of the week. The DJ-producer kept his mix chill, dark, and groovy as the evening fell. But we bet this Dirtybird dude will drop late-night club sets with way more ghetto fabulosity when he hits the Pickle. So stay loose and prep that ass.
