Yesterday, we speculated on the possibility of a November performance by Lauryn Hill at the Arsht Center, based on a promotional postcard we got in the mail this past weekend from the venue. Still, while the postcard touted a sale of tickets to shows that included Hill’s, we didn’t find anything on the Arsht Center web site about it.
We finally got an answer, and it’s definitive in at least one respect: The show will not be happening at the Arsht Center. That promotional postcard was printed while the date was only tentatively scheduled. Suzette Espinosa Fuentes, the Arsht Center’s public relations director, wrote this in an e-mail to Crossfade:
Lauryn Hill was tentatively scheduled for November 6, as you saw in the mailing; however, the concert will not be taking place at the Arsht Center this season.
Hmm…. The careful wording sounds like perhaps the concert is still a possibility at another venue. We will keep our eyes and ears open and report as soon as we know something.

Regardless, the Arsht Center still has a number of exciting world music performances for the 2010-2011 season. Among them so far:
- The great new-flamenco artist Buika, who will perform a flamenco fusion tribute to Chavela Vargas
- Brazil’s Bale Folclorico da Bahia
- The Afro-Peruvian ensemble Peru Negro, with Eva Allyon
- The legendary Cuban group Los Munequitos de Matanzas
More will be announced, of course, and we’ll post details here on those too.
