In the short span of just over five years, Ellie Goulding went from being a vocally gifted blog sensation to one of the planet’s biggest superstars. Her first two records, Lights and Halcyon, went platinum, and “Love Me Like You Do,” the first single off her third record, Delirium (and one of the only good things to come out of Fifty Shades of Grey), became her most successful song and a global phenomenon. On Friday, June 3, American Airlines Arena plays host to Goulding’s Delirium tour during the summer leg of her U.S. visit.
Her trip to Miami comes amid a row with folks on Twitter asking her to butt out of politics (in particular, those dealing with a certain pumpkin-haired bag of shit). It’s a stupid fight and one that she’ll always win, because the “Burn” songbird has the type of appeal that transcends cultures and the opinions of small-minded dumb-dumbs.
Of course, as confident as we may be in her, she sometimes doesn’t feel the same. In a recent interview she admitted to The Guardian, “I feel like I could change the world. But sometimes the response I get makes me think: ‘Oh – they’ve figured it out. They’ve figured out that I’m nothing special.’ I sometimes feel like I’m going to get found out – like I’m just a normal girl.”
But Ellie Goulding is far from a “normal girl.” She’s a musical treasure who continually bestows gifts upon the world, and this coming weekend, South Florida gets its present.
