When we first heard that Nine Inch Nails‘ Trent Reznor would be scoring The Social Network, we got a little confused. First off, a movie about Facebook? 

But once we saw the trailer, we breathed a sigh of relief. Oh, so this movie might actually be good. And it’s directed by dark cinematic genius David Fincher. Alright, it all makes sense.

And now, Crossfade readers, we have a sampler of the soundtrack for your listening pleasure.

Reznor posted the following on the nullco site:

“Musically, this all came out of our secret laboratory — electronic in

basis, but mostly organic sounding. Lots of experiments and emphasis on

sound fraying around the edges while focusing on the proper emotional

tone for the various scenes.”

He’s right. The soundtrack is only a minor departure from standard NIN,

but nothing that true Reznor fans won’t be able to appreciate. It still

has an inherent darkness mixed with synths and electronic beats, making

for a new take on Reznor classics. That’s probably because he worked

with longtime NIN producer Atticus Ross on the 19-track album.
