Shakira is having a remarkably productive month. It’s also been reproductive.
Less than four weeks after being named the 40th most powerful woman on the planet and two-days removed from landing a spring coaching gig on NBC’s The Voice, the Colombian pop star confirmed that she and boyfriend Gerard Pique are expecting their first child.
The singer made the announcement via Shakira.com, thanking fans for their support in both English and Spanish. She also regrettably announced the cancellation of her scheduled appearance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, but promised to see everyone “very soon.”

As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby! At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days.
This means I will not be able to be a part of the iHeartRadio Music Festival, but I’m sure this weekend in Las Vegas will be spectacular and I will be closely following everything that happens there!
I’d like to thank Clear Channel and my fans for their constant love and understanding.
Big kiss!
And will see you very soon!

Pique, an FC Barcelona defender and Spanish national team soccer member, has been dating Shakira since 2010, according to Reuters. He too used social media to spread the word that he and the “Loca” singer were expecting.
By Thursday morning, Pique’s Twitter profile picture was a baby pacifier.
Neither Shakira nor Pique have said when the baby is due.
