Twelve is a strange age. It’s a year full of awkward changes and uncomfortable levels of self-awareness. Pretty much no one’s got their shit together.
Unless we’re talking about Space. This mainland nightclub has spent the past decade-plus perfecting its party mojo, working hard to become the embodiment of the Miami party mentality.
So forget what you know about 12-year-old birthday parties. Because this Saturday, Space is celebrating its own way.
The club’s tenth anniversary party was cray. And this weekend won’t be any less epic. It’s going to be an all-night, fist-pumping frenzy, featuring sets from more than 15 DJs, including Louis Puig, Patrick M, and Ivano Bellini.

Of course, Space and its owner, Puig, had us in love from the start. We at New Times recognized the then-new party spot as Miami’s Best Dance Club in 2001 for its spaciousness, packed bangfests, top-notch lineups, and totally rad cooling system.
And it impressed us again with a win for Best Afterhours Place in 2010. Because really, where else are you going to party until the “good” people have left church?
Like many Miami faces, it’s had some reconstructive surgery. The original venue off Biscayne Boulevard was a one-story warehouse covering more than 9,000 square feet of dance floor.
But even that wasn’t enough to contain the beat-eating monster. So Space moved to its current location, expanding to three floors offering different genres, from hip-hop to house to electro. And these days, Space is a 25,000-square-foot playground for 24-hour party people.
But what it really comes down to night after night, year after year is the music. Puig and crew have always brought in the biggest names in the game. And they can’t stop coming back!
Over the years, there have been multiple Space sets from Steve Angello, Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, and David Guetta. Even the wasted cast of Jersey Shore know that Space is the place to go ham in Miami.
The club’s new 18-and-up monthly 1 Night In Miami has been a smash, like most things in its history. And the birthday celebration should be no different. Here’s to 12 more years of uhntz-uhntz, flashy clothes, bottle poppin’, and leaving with your shades on at Space.
