Rumors about Ultra Music Festival’s future keep piling up. We’ve sent the festival’s publicist multiple emails asking for comment, but Russell and Charlie Faibisch, two of Ultra’s founders and organizers, have been busy this summer with Afrobeta’s promotional tour, traveling to Europe and the West Coast. (Yes, if you didn’t know a few of the people behind Ultra are the same people behind Afrobeta’s latest boost in publicity. We’ll have more on that later.)
Luckily for us, we were at Sweat Records last night where Afrobeta performed. We were able to catch up with Russell and asked him what everyone wants to know: What’s happening to Ultra 2011?
Russell confirmed that rumors of Ultra moving out of Miami are completely untrue. Ultra will be staying downtown. Unfortunately, he is still keeping mum whether or not Ultra will take place at Bicentennial or Bayfront Park. Festival details will be revealed when tickets go on sale in October.
Remember, though, that while Bicentennial Park looks like a mess now, it will be put back together in time for Cirque Du Soleil’s annual residency later this year, which the Bayfront Park Management Trust confirmed to us back in July. Whether or not groundbreaking for the actual Museum Park happens before or after next year’s music festival remains to be seen.
