The Dolphins may have pulled out a win last night, but defensive back Jonathon Amaya’s celebratory night in South Beach got out of hand. He was arrested early this morning for allegedly choking a taxi driver.

According to CBS Miami, Amaya hailed a taxi cab on Miami Beach last night and asked to be taken all the way to the Broward County suburb Weston. The driver told Amaya he didn’t take passengers that far, but Amaya promised to pay him $100.

The driver agreed, but shortly into the ride Amaya began acting aggressive. So, the driver decided to drop Amaya back off where he had picked him up. He gave him his money back and asked him to get out of the cab.

That didn’t sit well with Amaya. The 6’2″ football player allegedly put his hands around the driver’s neck and started choking him.

Amaya was arrested on charges of battery, and was booked into jail 7:43 this morning. His bond is set at $1,500, but according to the Miami-Dade Corrections website Amaya is still behind bars.

Amaya has spent three years in the NFL. He played last season with the New Orleans Saints, and joined the Dolphins this year. Amaya hasn’t been much of a factor for the Fins this year, with only six tackles through the season.
