Miami Police are investigating the sudden death of a 4-year-old girl this week and believe the child’s mother’s boyfriend, 20-year-old Calvin Morris Lewis, might have beaten him to death. Lewis has been arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated child abuse.

Police responded to a home at 6226 NW Third Ave. in Miami shortly after 10 p.m. this past Easter Sunday. Police discovered the unresponsive toddler. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Pediatric Trauma Unit but later pronounced dead.

Lewis was the only other person in the home and was supposed to be watching the girl that night.

At first, police couldn’t classify the death, but after an autopsy revealed extensive trauma to the child’s organs, they ruled the death a homicide by means of a brutal beating.
