A 16-year-old girl in Homestead was raped Sunday after accepting a ride home from church with Edwin Carrillo-Garcia, 23, a fellow parishioner. He’s accused of driving her instead to an unknown area and raping her in his car before driving her home.
The incident occurred after Sunday services at the Church of God on the 200 block of NE Second Road, according to NBC Miami. The church is made up of a group of about 40 Guatemalan immigrants. The accused himself is a Guatemalan national.
The girl was waiting for a ride home when Carrillo-Garcia offered to drive her there. Instead he took her to a part of Southwest Miami-Dade the victim didn’t recognize.
Carillo-Garcia then began asking the teen for sex, but she refused. He proceeded to unbutton his pants and then raped the girl as she screamed and struggled in protest.

Afterward, he drove the girl home, where she quickly called police. Carrillo-Garcia initially resisted arrest but was taken into custody.
He was charged with sexual battery and resisting an officer without violence.
According to Deuteronomy 22:28-29 in the Bible, Carrillo-Garcia would have to pay the girl’s father 50 schekles and marry her, but according to Florida state law, he could face life in prison.
