Miami Hurricanes linebacker Ramon Buchanon’s arrest on felony charges in Coconut Grove last month may have put a dent on the team’s recent clean image, but the felony charges against him will be dropped assuming he completes a pre-trial diversion program. Buchanon had previously been reinstated to the team.
Buchanan had been arrested March 22nd at Fat Tuesdays in Coconut Grove following a drunk skirmish with police officer in which he shouted, “I’m a UM football player and I don’t give a fuck what you do. I’ll get out of it. Fuck the police.” According to the arrest report Buchanan also struggled with police officers as they tried to subdue them, even trying to headbutt a few.
Now Buchanan has been ordered by a judge to complete pre-trial diversion program. He must complete 100 hours of community service, pen a letter of apology to the officers and donate $300 to community programs. Once that is completed his record will be cleared. Buchanan had previously apologized to the officers in person.
“He apologized to the police officers and they had no objection,” Buchanan’s attorney Joseph Rosenbaum said according to The Palm Beach Post. “No one got hurt. It was one of those things. It’s just something that spun out of control. He’s not that type of kid. From everyone I’ve talked to, he’s a real good kid, a quiet kid. Just something that could happen to anybody.”
