A brief car chase on I-95 last night led to Miami-Dade Police shooting and injuring a suspect. The incident began when an erratic driver refused to stop for police near NE 79th Street and Second Avenue a little after 9 p.m. The driver tried to hit an officer with his car before speeding off.
The silver Ford Mustang ended up crashing while entering I-95. The driver attempted to side-swipe an unmarked police car before crashing into a barrier near Ives Dairy Road.
After the crash, the driver ran across the busy interstate and into a wooded area. Police followed and confronted the man. That’s when a Miami-Dade officer fired his gun and wounded the suspect in the abdomen.
The suspect is recovering in the hospital. No officers were hurt.
