A confrontation early this morning in Hialeah between a tenant with a baseball bat and a landlord with a gun ended with the tenant shot through the chest and left dead.

The incident happened at about 2 a.m. in front of a home on 57th Street and West 10th Avenue. According to WSVN, the landlord and tenant, a man in his 20s, got into an argument that apparently escalated to a violent showdown in the front yard.

Very little else is known. Hialeah Police have confirmed that they recovered both the gun and the bat from the scene.

The landlord remains in custody and is still be questioned by police.

Neighbor Charles Pollock tells Local 10 he’s not used to crimes like this in his neighborhood.

“Disconcerting is a good word,” the neighbor said. “Last thing that happened here was like over a year and a half ago. There was a robbery way down on the other end of the block.”
