Police are searching for the driver of a car that plowed into a man on North Miami Avenue on early Saturday morning, but didn’t even bother to stop. The victim was Carl Jones, a homeless man who was trying to cross the street and was killed on the scene. The impact was caught on video by the surveillance cameras of a nearby tire shop.
The victim is, incredibly, the ninth pedestrian killed by Miami drivers in the past week.
The incident occurred at the intersection of North Miami Avenue and 79th Street at about 5:18 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Cameras installed at Gonzalo Jimenez’s tire store caught the incident on tape. Police are now looking for a black, four-door car with front-end damage.

“They didn’t hit a dog or anything, they hit a human being,” Jimenez told NBC Miami.
“Our investigation revealed that we may have a black-colored Pontiac or a black-colored vehicle with extensive front-end damage and with windshield damage,” Miami Police Detective Joseph Kennedy told WSVN. “A word to the wise to the pedestrians out there: Please pay attention when you’re crossing. Most of our fatalities this week have been pedestrians.”
Jones was the ninth pedestrian killed by a driver in Miami-Dade in the past week. Other fatal crashed occurred outside Jumbo’s restaurant, and Marlins Park.
