Margarita Blanco, 41, was set on fire by her boyfriend on Wednesday evening and, according to family members, did not survive the brutal attack. She passed away today around noon at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Meanwhile, her alleged killer and former boyfriend, Jesus Alvarez, also 41, remains on the run.
Alvarez set Blanco on fire after the two got into a fight at their mobile home in the River Park trailer park in Allapattah. Friends describe their relationship as rocky, often violent, and prone to breakups, but Blanco returned time and time again believing he had changed.
Police describe Alvarez as a career criminal with several arrests and multiple stints in prison. Blanco also had a lengthy rap sheet, including arrests for cocaine possession and robbery.
Alvarez remains on the run, and anyone who has any information on his whereabouts is asked to call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
