“This is absolutely bizarre, I can’t imagine somebody wanting to barter a live four-foot alligator for a 12 pack of beer, it makes no sense to me,” Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Jorge Pino told NBC Miami.
Well, this is Florida. It only makes sense when it doesn’t make sense.
Yes, Fernando Caignet Aguilera, 64, was cited after he trapped a four-foot gator and then took it to a store in Allapattah in hopes of trading it for beer.
The incident happened on December 10 after Pino found the gator in a park. He then took it to the Santa Maria Market at 3200 NW 12th Ave. to try and complete the trade. The clerk was not in a bartering mood and instead called authorities.
