Thirty-two-year-old Carlos Usatorres, a former full-time gym teacher at Miami Springs Middle School, was arrested last December on charges that he was having repeated sexual encounters in his office with a 13-year-old female student. The arrest has been kept quiet until now, but the attorney for the girl’s family is finally talking and notifying other parents at the middle school.
The alleged ongoing abuse was discovered when another female teacher at the school observed several instances where the girl and Usatorres were alone. At one point she opened the door to his office and observed the startled girl jumping off the teacher’s lap.
“The allegations are that this was an ongoing sexual abuse of a young girl,” attorney Jeffrey Herman, who is representing the girl’s family, tells WSVN.
Though the arrest occurred in December, many parents tell WSVN that they weren’t made aware until the station asked. The Miami-Dade School Board retorts that they immediately removed Usatorres from contact with students. He has been assigned to another position while he awaits trial for the charges.
