A bizarre series of event early this morning lead to Miami-Dade Police fatally shooting a suspect who had stolen a police cruiser. The incident started after the man fled the scene of a deadly car crash that claimed the life of a cab driver.


At 6:45 a.m., the suspect was involved in a car crash with a taxi SUV near Northwest 82nd Street and Sixth Avenue. The driver of the cab was killed as a result of the accident, and two other victims were transported to the hospital. Those victims are believed to be the wife of the taxi driver and the girlfriend of the suspect.

The driver of the other car then fled the scene. A female officer spotted the man and began chasing him. The officer caught up with the suspect near Ninth Avenue and gunfire was exchanged. After the shots, the suspect then jumped in the officer’s police cruiser and took off.

Eventually, the suspect lost control of the car and crashed in the areas of Northwest 91th Street and 18th Avenue. Police and the suspect exchanged more fire, resulting in the the suspect being fatally shot.
