Few details are immediately available, but a small plane appears to have crash-landed on a stretch of Florida’s Turnpike near Hollywood. Northbound lanes are closed. Updated.
From what we can tell from the local news’ chopper footage, it appears as if the single-engine plane did not hit any cars.
The Pembroke Pines Fire Department says three people were aboard the plane and that two were taken to the hospital. No other official comment has been made.
This isn’t the first time this year that a plane has crashed in a populated South Florida area. In May, a Beechcraft BE 18 went down near the 14000 block of Northwest 41st Avenue and crashed into two vehicles before hitting a home and bursting into flames. The pilot died in that incident.
Updated: The passengers taken to Memorial Regional Hospital have been confirmed as the pilot and co-pilot. The man apparently spoke French. Their conditions are currently unknown.
The two were piloting a Socata TBM 700 and were only planning on flying it from Opa-Locka Executive Airport in Miami-Dade to North Perry General Aviation Airport in Broward.
