After today’s executive order suspending her again, the next big date in the Michelle Spence-Jones saga is Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier this week, attorneys asked a Miami-Dade judge for an emergency hearing to prevent Governor Charlie Crist from suspending Michelle Spence-Jones. But the Guv pulled his trigger faster than the judge.
Now her attorneys, Dennis Bedard and Ben Kuehne, will face off with Crist’s representatives Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Miami-Dade County Courthouse.
Bedard said the Governor’s office informed him of its intention to suspend the newly-elected commissioner Wednesday.

In a statement released to the media, Spence-Jones vowed to fight the suspension, which would take effect after she’s sworn in Saturday at noon. “It is our position that under Florida law I had the right to run in the city of Miami special election,” the statement reads. “And now that the voters have re-elected me, I have the right to serve.”
In his executive order, Crist maintains that it’s within his authority to suspend an elected official who’s been charged with a felony.
