Two people are reportedly dead after gunfire broke out at a Florida high school. Police were on their way to Episcopal High School in Jacksonville earlier this afternoon after receiving reports of a man with a gun on campus, but they didn’t get there fast enough to prevent the two deaths.
Updated: The gunman was a fired teacher, and the victim was the school’s headmaster.
According to reports, no students were involved. The two dead are believed to be adults.
Early reports suggest that the incident was a murder-suicide. Neither the victim nor the gunman have been identified.
Episcopal is a private school in Jacksonville that, according to its website, provides a “a nurturing Christian atmosphere.”
About 900 students in grades 6 through 12 attend the school. Parents have been allowed to pick up their children.
Update: According to Jacksonville.com, the victim was a former teacher who had been fired just yesterday. He returned to campus today armed with an AK-57 and shot about seven to eight round in and around the administrative building. One of the bullets claimed the life of headmaster Dale Regan.
Before becoming headmaster in 2010, Regan has taught English at the school since 1978.
