One teen is in custody while another is still on the run after allegedly killing a man last night over his cell phone.
Police say the two teens were riding around Little Haiti on their bicycles with the intent of robbing someone when they spotted 54-year-old Jerry Wayne Sherrell near NW 54th St. and 3rd Ave. at 11:30 pm last night. The incident happened right outside the entrance to Design Place, a gated residential complex.
According to NBC Miami, one teen held Sherrell at gunpoint while the other demanded his cellphone. Sherrell resisted, and he was shot multiple times.
The teens left his body and their bicycles on the scene and then ran away on foot. A witness attempted to help Sherrell but he was pronounced dead on the scene.
