Miami Police officer Eric Guzman killed a 27 year old black man during a struggle at approximately 9:30 p.m. in Overtown yesterday.
A five-year veteran officer, Guzman spotted Kiana Sean Lamb, who fit the description of a wanted man, at NW 5th Avenue and 6th Street. When the officer confronted Lamb, they began fighting, Miami police said. Guzman fired his gun two or three times, striking Lamb and killing him.
Miami court records show Lamb has been arrested at least six times on felony charges since 2001 for crimes ranging from strong arm robbery to coke sales. The most recent arrest came in June.
The Miami Herald reported Guzman was responding to a 911 call about a theft, and during the confrontation, the subject bit and stabbed him.
Miami police retrieved a knife from the scene.
Guzman was injured and transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
