Lets get ready to rumble! No seriously, we need to get ready to rumble. It’s just been announced that Miami is playing host to professional wrestling’s biggest event WrestleMania in 2012. It’s not quite another Super Bowl, but hosting the event means an economic boon for the city as well as playing host to all that WWE action.

The Miami-Dade County Commission, and specifically sports commission chair José “Pepe” Diaz, has been trying to lure WrestleMania to Miami since at least 2009. While Miami lost out on its bid to host the 2011 festivities, we beat out 13 other cities to host the 2012 event.

WrestleMania 28 will be the third event held outside and only the second in Florida. The big Sunday night show, to be held in either late March or early April, is complimented by a week-long list of events. Last year’s event generated an estimated $45.1 million for the Phoenix area, and studies suggest that more than 50 percent of attendants come from out of the state and stay in town an average of three days.

The matches may not be real, but the money involved very much is.
