Just three days after WSFL newsreader Lisa Hayward was arrested for crashing her car into a tree and booked for DUI with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit, her husband, WSVN reporter Derek Hayward, was arrested for suspicion of domestic violence after an incident involving Lisa. According to Page 2 Live, the Haywards were arguing about Lisa’s arrest while in the family car. Derek allegedly grabbed Lisa and then kicked her and their two young sons out of the car and drove off.
Hayward, known for his distinctive British accent, has been a mainstay reporter at Miami’s sensational WSVN for about 20 years. He has been married to Lisa — formerly an anchor in the West Palm Beach market and now newsreader at WSFL’s struggling morning show — for 17 years. The couple has two sons, ages 10 and 13.
The incident happened Saturday night in Coconut Creek. The family, according to Jose Lambiet’s sources, was driving home from dinner when the couple began arguing about the DUI arrest:
An insider tells me the Haywards were arguing about Lisa’s recent arrest when things really got heated up. Derek, who drove, admitted he grabbed his wife by her shirt as she sat on the passenger’s seat, then kicked her and the children out.
He was charged with simple battery, a misdemeanor. There was no evidence he hit her.

Derek was released from jail Sunday morning, and police say that both husband and wife reeked of alcohol at the time of the incident.
