With Carlos Gimenez and Julio Robaina duking it out to become the next county mayor, everybody wants to know in whose corner Luther Campbell will stand. His phone has been blowing up with calls from both camps seeking his endorsement, especially after Uncle Luke’s strong showing in the polls. And folks close to Campbell are also receiving calls and emails. Even I’m getting lobbied by Gimenez supporters, reminding me how “terrible it would be if Robaina wins.” Like I don’t know that. But it’s Campbell’s call. He recently reiterated he has not decided what his next move will be.
“I have not made up my mind,” Campbell says. “I’m going to talk to my friends and constituents before I make any decision. Hopefully by Monday I’ll know if I will endorse anyone or no one.”
So relax, everyone. Go enjoy your long Memorial Day weekend. If there are any developments, we’ll let you know.
