In almost any other year Alex Sink probably would have scrubbed the floor with Rick Scott. Instead this morning she issued her concession speech. With a margin currently less than 80,000 votes it appears that Rick Scott, the man who ran a company convicted of defrauding Medicare, is set to take over the reins of the fourth biggest state in the nation.
“While this is one of the closest elections in Florida gubernatorial history, there is not a path to victory for us,” Sink the out-going CFO said to supporters.
Sink ran a pretty safe and moderate campaign that highlighted her own fiscal conservancy and core values while occasionally taking the chance to attack Scott’s shady business history.
Scott, meanwhile, spent more than $70 million in his own money and brought up divisive issues as far-flung as the “Ground Zero Mosque,” Arizona’s immigration laws, the President’s birth certificate and the idea of repealing recently passed federal health care legislation.
