Armin van Buuren — he spent four consecutive years atop DJ Magazine‘s list of the 100 most popular DJs on the planet, a feat no other jock has accomplished in the British rag’s history.
Broadcasting to 26 countries and more than 15 million people each week, his radio show, A State of Trance, is one of the most listened to programs in the world. But it wasn’t until last July that van Buuren’s “best production” dropped. “Happy & proud to announce the birth of our beautiful daughter, Fenna,” the DJ tweeted. “Born July 24th. Mother & daughter are doing well and I’m a happy daddy!” A few months earlier, van Buuren had announced on Twitter that he and his wife were expecting their first child, joking, “Let’s hope it’ll be my best production ever.”
The birth of his child, however, has not slowed Armie. Celebrated as one of the most influential electronic music artists of all time, van Buuren is already a legend at just 35 years old. And it’s his commitment to the EDM craft that makes him great. “I always look at the crowd and then I decide where I go with my set,” he told DJ Magazine last month. “I look at the crowd, I mean, this is what makes DJing an art form — it’s your interaction with the crowd. It’s really hard to explain to a lot of people because people still see DJing as ‘this guy that’s playing other peoples’ records.’ But the industry is already way beyond that.”
