The Big Day Out Festival is one of those “some-day” trips to daydream about. An annual series of massive one-off fests throughout Australia and New Zealand, it’s like a Reading or Leeds done Down Under, with the world’s biggest festival draws ever. This year’s edition features seven dates from January 15 to 31, starting in Auckland, New Zealand and ending in Perth, Australia. The line-up includes heavy-hitters like Muse, Lily Allen, Groove Armada, the Mars Volta, Mastodon, Jet, Sasha, Simian Mobile Disco, and so on, and so on …. Oh, and Blowfly.

Yes, Miami’s own OG filth-rapper is headed out to dutifully scandalize the Aussies and Kiwis at all of the festival’s shows. He’s playing the Lilyworld stage; not sure if that means Allen’s a fan, but she certainly would appreciate Blowfly’s cheek(s). And fun factoid: This will make Blowfly only the second South Florida artist to play the festival. The first was Marilyn Manson back in ’99, if you count him.

All of the festival’s dates are sold out, at 42,000 to 50,000 a show.

$30,000

So that’s at least 294,000 Australians and New Zealanders who might be

treated to hits like “Who Did I Eat Last Night?” or “Should I Fuck This

Big Fat Ho” (sung to the tune of “Should I Stay Or Should I Go”).

To warm up, Blowfly and his band will play the new Fort Lauderdale rockabilly hangout, the Monterey Club, on Saturday, January 2. It’s his first show in Broward since 2006, when he opened, weirdly, for Pinback at Culture Room. This gig more appropriately puts him on a bill alongside fellow locals with a FTW attitude: Mr. Entertainment and the Pookiesmackers, from Hollywood, and Jacuzzi Boys, from Miami.
