All it took was word that Rep. Connie Mack IV was about to enter the GOP primary for the parties’ Senate nomination to finally heat up that sad race. Despite the fact that Mack hasn’t officially announced his candidacy, he now leads the latest Quinnipiac poll by 23 points. George LeMieux and Adam Hasner have been running for the nomination for months, but each is stuck in single digits.

Here are the latest numbers from Quinnipiac:

  • Mack – 32 percent
  • Hasner – 2 percent
  • LeMieux – 9 percent
  • Miller – 2 percent
  • McCalister – 6 percent
  • Undecided – 45 percent

Hasner, the conservative candidate who has courted Tea Party support, gets only 2 percent. Which ties him with Craig Miller, the former Ruth’s Chris Steak House honcho, and Mike McCalister, the little-known libertarian-leaning candidate.
