Miami’s Five Best Concerts This Week

There’s nothing more refreshing than free iced coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts in the middle of a sweaty afternoon and live music from the Mowgli’s right on the beach. As the L.A. indie rockers told our sister paper New Times Broward-Palm Beach in an interview earlier this year: “There’s a happiness in our bodies, hearts, and minds [that comes] from the sunshine and carefree vibe.” Guitarist Josh Hogan may have been talking about the band’s home state of California, but there’s plenty of sunshine in Florida. Throw in some caffeine and “[We’re] Good!”

Deaf Poets may be rockin’ the carpet at Bardot on Wednesday, but we can still pretend it’s the weekend. Because no matter what day of the week it really is, Sean Wouters and Nicolas Espinosa – and their “bombastic guitar strums and blaring snare-drum smashes,” of course – will make you forget about reality and let the good times roll.

From Somewhere Under Wonderland to the Magic City, Counting Crows are bringing their “intensely soulful and intricate take on timeless rock ‘n’ roll” to the grounds of Bayfront Park this week. From their 1993 smash hit “Mr. Jones” to last year’s “Palisades Park,” Adam Duritz and his crew will be jammin’ to all the classics and new hits.

Miami is made up of interesting characters. Just take a look at Jessie Andrews. The former adult film star and jewelry designer is one of dance music’s most interesting personalities. Andrews calls L.A. home these days, but this week, the porn star turned DJ will be showing off her wax skills in her hometown at Bardot.
