So much for avoiding a quarterback controversy. Despite reports that Jacory Harris is healthy and cleared to play, a source close to the Hurricanes tells NBCMiami that freshman QB Stephen Morris will start against the USF Bulls this Saturday. Are the Harris days for the Hurricanes over?
Harris went out with a concussion weeks ago against Virginia, and with second stringer A.J. Highsmith also injured and third stringer Spencer Whipple disappointing Morris’s redshirt status was burned. He nearly lead the team to a comeback against Virginia, and has won two of his three games as starter. Though, three interceptions against Virginia Tech last week didn’t exactly make for an inspiring performance.
Coach Randy Shannon has always maintained that Harris would return as starter as long as he was healthy. He suited up last week, but saw no action. He’s reportedly taking snaps in practice.
Reports NBCMiami:
Morris was taking first-team snaps at practice Tuesday afternoon with a healthy Harris on the field.
The source, who did not want to be named because the coach had not commented on the issue, said Harris was told Monday night he would be the back up until further notice.
The USF game shouldn’t be taking lightly, but Harris had no problems facing the Bulls last year in a 31-10 victory.

This also make the quarterback race going into next year quite interesting. Harris will be a senior still hoping for a shot at the NFL, Morris will be a true sophomore, and Highsmith, a promising quarterback in his own right, will be a junior.
Three talented QBs all gunning for the same position isn’t exactly the worst problem to have (just ask the Miami Dolphins right now), but raw talent isn’t Miami’s problem. They have tons of it. Getting it to all work together is the big problem.
