As part of his “Let’s Get to Work” publicity stunt, Florida Governor Rick Scott will be spending the day working at the Port of Miami. Scott was spotted in a hardhat, orange vest and work gloves at the port early this morning, and will spend time working for ocean transportation company Seaboard Marine before pulling a shift aboard Carnival Cruise Lines’ Imagination.
Probably not coincidentally, the governor pledged $77 million earlier this year to dredge the port to accommodate larger ships. That’s a project that has some environmentalists up in arms.
Scott borrowed the idea of “work days” from former Democratic Governor and Senator Bob Graham. Graham, who enjoyed broad support during his political career, worked hundreds of days in menial jobs across the state during his combined 18 years as a governor and senator.
Scott apparently wants a little bit of that Graham-popularity magic, as his poll numbers remain frighteningly low.

Scott’s previous workdays include a stint at a doughnut shop in the Tampa Bay region (a term the governor is unfamiliar with), and at a restaurant in Panama Beach.
